Our Constitution

ARTICLE I

The name of this organization is the Raleigh Coin Club.

ARTICLE II

The purpose and objects, for which this club is formed, are as follows:

  • To bring together in fellowship, kindred persons interested in the science of numismatics.

  • To advance the science of numismatics.

  • To promote educational and charitable activities in the field of numismatics.

  • To cultivate friendly relations among numismatists, dealers, amateur collectors and non-collectors interested in the field of numismatics.

  • To engage in any and all activities, such as but not limited to shows, auctions, club library, etc., to achieve these objectives.

ARTICLE III

The club shall have members duly elected to membership, in the manner prescribed by the BY-LAWS.

ARTICLE IV

The officers shall be elected as provided for by the BY-LAWS of the club.

ARTICLE V

Upon dissolution of the club, the assets of the club shall be disposed of by the executive board, subject to the restrictions hereinafter set forth. The executive board, upon dissolution or liquidation of the club, must distribute the assets of the club to the following and only eligible recipients: National, Regional, State, or local numismatic associations or societies, Public Libraries, Archives, or Museums.

ARTICLE VI

All operations of the club shall be governed by the BY-LAWS.

ARTICLE VII

The constitution may be amended by 2/3 vote of membership present at any regular or called meeting, providing 30 day written notice is given to all members in good standing. Not less than 10 members are needed to constitute a quorum.

Our By-laws

ARTICLE I - MEMBERSHIP

Section 1: There shall be four classes of members in this organization, and they shall be as follows:

  • (a) Senior members: Persons of good character who are eighteen years of age or older, who have applied for membership, who have been accepted for membership, and who have been assigned a membership number by the secretary, and who have paid the prescribed dues, and whose name appears on the records of the club as a member in good standing for the current year.

  • (b) Junior members: Persons of good character who have not attained the age of eighteen years, and have met the requirements as prescribed for Senior members.

  • (c) Honorary members: Honorary membership may be conferred upon any person who has performed any outstanding service for the club. This membership shall carry no voting rights and will not be required to pay club dues but shall carry the privilege to all other club facilities and activities.

  • (d) Life Members: Any Senior member, in good standing for a minimum of three (3) years, who shall pay the prescribed life membership dues, be assigned a life membership number by the Secretary, shall be designated life member, with full privileges, and obligations, except that he is relieved of annual dues.

  • (e) Honorary Life memberships: Any senior member who has performed outstanding services to the club. Such members shall not have to pay further dues, but they shall retain full rights to the club. These members shall be chosen by membership.  

Section 2: Application for membership shall be made to the Secretary on a form furnished by him and shall state applicant's name, address, phone number, and age. Each applicant shall be recommended by any member of the club in good standing, who personally knows and vouches for the character of the applicant. Application may be acted upon at any regular meeting, and if applicant is elected he will be declared a member immediately. In case an application is rejected and the dues have been paid, said dues shall be returned. 

Section 3: All members, except those previously excluded, shall have one vote and have the right to hold office.

Section 4: All members shall be assigned a permanent membership number. Junior members shall be designated by "J," Life members by "L," and Honorary Life members by "HL."

Section 5: Expulsion of Members: When a member conducts himself in a manner prejudicial to the welfare of the club, any member in good standing may present written charges to the President. The accused shall be furnished a copy of the charges and shall be afforded a period of 30 days to enter a written defense to the charges. The matter shall then be referred to the Executive Board, who will then determine the case, under such rules as they may adopt. The Board may dismiss the charges, or it may censure, suspend, or expel the accused member, and make its action known to the membership. Until final decision of the Board, the accused shall continue in good standing.

ARTICLE II - MANAGEMENT AND ELECTIONS

Section 1: The officers shall be President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant-at-Arms, and three Directors. The term of office will be for one year, except in the case of the Directors, who shall be elected to serve as follows: One 3-year, one 2-year, and one 1-year Director. In succeeding years, one 3-year Director shall be elected. These officers shall be known as the Executive Board.

Section 2: The President shall issue a call for nominations for President Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Sergeant-at-Arms, and one Director in November of each year, and the slate shall be presented to the membership prior to the December meeting, at which time elections will be held, with officers taking office at the first meeting of the year.

Section 3: The duties of the officers shall be as follows:

  • (a) President: The President shall have general supervision over all affairs of the club. His duties are, but are not restricted to:

    • (1) Preside at all regular and called meetings of the club.

    • (2) Call and preside at meeting of the Executive Board.

    • (3) Appoint any necessary committees.

    • (4) Issue call for nominations of officers.

    • (5) Receive regular reports from the Secretary, Treasurer, and committees.

    • (6) Be an ex-officio member of all committees.

    • (7) Require on audit annually or as often as necessary.

  • (b) Vice-President: The Vice-President shall assist the President, and upon request, handle the discharge of his duties.

  • (c) Secretary: The Secretary shall keep accurate records of meetings, preserve all documents pertaining to his office, remit funds received to the Treasurer, maintain membership roll. The same person may be elected as Treasurer.

  • (d) Treasurer: The Treasurer shall receive and disburse all monies, and give proper reports, and prepare and present detailed fiscal reports. The same person may be elected as Secretary.

  • (e) Sergeant-at-Arms The Sergeant-at-Arms shall maintain order at all club functions.

  • (f) The Executive Board shall transact all club business not reserved to the full membership or assigned to a specific officer.

Section 4: Standing Committees: All committees serve at the direction of the President. There shall be an Educational Committee, a Nominations Committee, a Publicity Committee, a Membership Committee, and a "Show" Committee.

Section 5: Dereliction of Duty: Any officer missing more than four consecutive meetings without due cause or who fails to fulfill his duties shall be asked to resign his office by the Executive Board.

ARTICLE III - SPECIAL PROVISIONS

Section 1: No member shall incur any expense in the name of the club except the President. All expenditures larger than $50 shall be presented to the full membership for approval. Necessary funds for the Secretary and for other club expenses shall be pre-approved by the Executive Board.

Section 2: The fiscal year shall be from January 1 through December 31.

Section 3: The By-Laws may be amended by a 2/3 vote of the membership present at any regular or called meeting, providing thirty day written notice is given to all members in good standing. Not less than ten members constitute a quorum.

Section 4: No new application shall be required of members in good standing when this Constitution and By-Laws is adopted by the membership.

Section 5: This Constitution and By-Laws shall become effective upon ratification by the membership.
