NCNA Convention The Raleigh Coin Club has much to be proud of this month after making quite a name for itself (once again!) at the recently held annual convention of the North Carolina Numismatic Association (NCNA). The RCC swept the exhibit awards, won the NCNA Literary Award for the second year in a row, and had four of its members either elected or re-elected as NCNA officers or board members. |

But first, I'd like to talk about the most important contribution (in my opinion) that the RCC made to this year's NCNA show - our non-competative club exhibit! About a dozen RCC members contributed to the club exhibit for the NCNA show, and the varied offerings made for an attractive and well-received display. From ancients to moderns (and many things in between!), we filled
four display cases with our coins, currency, tokens, medals, and ephemera. I believe our exhibit reached out to both collectors and non-collectors alike, and let everyone attending the show know that the hobby means more to RCC members than simply the buying and selling of numismatic collectibles.

The Raleigh Coin Club Annual Coin & Stamp Show was held Saturday, May 22 and Sunday, May 23. The show was held a month earlier this year due to scheduling conflicts with the 1999 Special Olympics being held in the Triangle this summer. The show provided an oppertunity for the club to
meet the collecting public and promote the hobby. Activities included competative numismatic exhibits and a club table. Approximately 60 dealers occupying 80+ tables attended the show. [More Pictures] The exhibits being viewed

To promote National Coin Week the Raleigh Coin Club counter-struck 250 old dateless Buffalo nickels with the club's initials "RCC" where the date once was and had the membership spend them in the area during National Coin Week. The club also sent news releases to the area media
announcing this and listing prizes that would be offered to the first 10 individuals who find and return one of these nickels to the Raleigh Coin Club. Check the Club News page for updates on the contests progress. |
