RCC Well Represented at NCNA Convention
|
The Raleigh Coin Club was well represented at this year’s NCNA Convention. In addition to our club and it’s members being prominently mentioned during the NCNA business meeting we had a large physical presence. Highlighted by Raleigh’s own Bob Schreiner being named "Numismatist of the Year." Halbert Carmichael was installed as the new president, Bob Schreiner as 1st vice-president and Ted Hendrick as a director. Six of the seven educational exhibits were from the RCC with Dave Provost taking 2nd place and Halbert capturing 3rd. Also a large number of our members made the trip to Greensboro for the bourse. For more detail see Dave Provost’s Vice-Presidents Message. |

Vice President’s Message On Saturday, September 27th, I traveled west, along with David Boitnott and Vince Chicarelli, to Greensboro, NC for the annual NCNA Show and Convention. It was a full day of numismatic pursuits, as I set up an educational exhibit, cruised the bourse floor looking for the "perfect" coin or medal, attended the NCNA Membership Meeting, and sat and talked with fellow collectors and dealers alike. Throughout the day, I had many occasions to be proud of our club and its members, but four in particular stood out and I thought I would share them with you. Proud Moment #1 occurred during the mid-afternoon NCNA General Membership Meeting, the Association’s Secretary/Treasurer, Russ Southworth, mentioned how he wished more NC club’s were as active and vital as the RCC. He also made note of our newsletter and the fine job its editor, David Boitnott, is doing with the monthly publication. (It’s nice to be recognized by the "outside world"!) At the same meeting, our own Ted Hendrick spoke up and complemented us all when he mentioned how proud he was of the fact that the RCC "doesn’t just have a membership, we have members." He went on to note how active our members are, and how we all contribute to our club’s success. (It’s nice to be recognized by the "inside world" also!) Proud Moment #2 came when it was announced that Halbert and I had won two of the three show awards for numismatic exhibiting. It was nice to see the RCC taking a leadership role in this very important aspect of our hobby. I enjoy exhibiting because of my love for both learning and teaching, being recognized for one’s efforts is just a nice bonus! Proud Moment #3 came at the post-bourse dinner when Bob Schreiner was named as the NCNA "Numismatist of the Year." It was great to see Bob’s efforts recognized by the state-wide organization! It was certainly a deserved honor! I hope Bob brings his award to the October meeting so that everyone can share his achievement. And finally, Proud Moment #4 swept over me when I watched Halbert, Bob Schreiner and Ted Hendrick get sworn in as officers for the Association. Halbert is the new NCNA President, Bob Schreiner is the new 1st Vice President and Ted continues as a director. When three of our club’s best leaders rise up to lead our state’s organization, you know that good things are on the way! Why not take a moment to congratulate Halbert, or Bob, or David Boitnott at the October meeting? They’ll enjoy it, you’ll enjoy it, and it’s absolutely free! |
